Update - January 2006 - Some good news from Sri Lanka

Some good news from Sri Lanka

Following the great success of the "Hygiene Hamper" appeal last year, which saw over €500,000 of your products being shipped directly to the needy people of Sri Lanka, I can now give you some more good news.

Feb. 15th will see the official opening of "The Limerick Pre School" in Kataragama in the south east of Sri Lanka. The name was selected by Anita and her fellow aid workers, and a sign outside the building will show that it was donated by the people of this area of Ireland. This school has been funded by cash donations received last year,
through our Tsunami appeal, which we forwarded to Anita.

Anita, in co-operation with local monks in Kataragama, has constructed this new school to provide the poorest of poor children with a chance of an education, and a future.

Kataragama is also a holy place visited by millions of Sri Lankans annually. Hence the place is of religious and social significance.

The land on which the school is constructed belongs to the Kataragama Temple, owned by the State. The building is 1100 sq.ft. and the number of Children who could study will be 100.

Sincere thanks to Anita and all her staff for continuing the efforts to provide a better future for the people of this devastated area.
Hopefully this is one happy ending to the many events of such a terrible tragedy.
